If you’ve been feeling restless, apathetic, or emotionally empty lately, you may be experiencing something doctors call “languishing.” Languishing is described as an emotional state of limbo, aimlessness, and low mood, which can last for a long time, with the possibility of ultimately leading to anxiety or depression. Many people may have experienced or have continued to experience this mood without knowing why: a study which looked at data from participants in 78 different countries found that 10% of people experienced languishing during the pandemic.
