Ghost Networks
Ghost network is a commonly used term for a panel of medical providers who for some reason aren’t providing. The problem hampers many mental health care networks, particularly admits the crises of the pandemic. The Washington Post has provided some advice for protecting yourself against these ghost networks. These include:
- Take careful, thorough notes when searching for a provider
- Don’t wait for one provider: call and email as many as you can
- Ask your health care plan for a “single-case exception.” This allows your insurance plan to reimburse an out-of-network payer
- To contest a lack of coverage, you have to file an appeal within six months of care being denied to your insurer
- You may also take your case to the government agency that regulates your insurer
