Self-care is mentioned so often these days, but few people actually know what it entails. As this Psych Central article expressed, “self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health.” It’s not something we should force ourselves to do or something that might drain us. It is not only about considering our needs, but knowing ourselves and what we can do to live a balanced life.
Self-care requires a lot more discipline than we think. This article outlines three rules: stick to the basics, actively plan, and keep a conscious mind. It also emphasizes that although the process will be different for everybody, there are things everyone should do, such as making a list of things you know aren’t good for you, keeping a healthy diet, spending time with loved ones, and getting enough sleep.
There’s a lot that goes into self-care that we aren’t taught. Read more about what it is and isn’t here.
