It’s no surprise by now that COVID-19 has worsened people’s mental health. Data from the COVID-19 and Life Stressors Impact on Mental Health showed that all levels of depression showed a significant increase, while people with household incomes below $45,000 were 2.37 times more likely to show symptoms. What might surprise people is that not much has been done about it. Though some communities are making efforts to help those struggling with heightened depression, there are no national plans to address the system that has allowed for this to happen. Those of different ethnicities and those on the lower-income level have been affected disproportionately, and the marginalized have received less than adequate care since the pandemic started. This article addresses some of these issues and gives suggestions on what needs to be done to help those around us.
